Welcome to Year 1

Year 1 is an exciting stage in your child’s learning journey. Building on the strong foundations of Early Years, children continue to learn through play, exploration and hands-on experiences, while gradually developing new skills and knowledge across the curriculum.

In Year 1, we nurture curiosity, creativity and independence. Children are encouraged to ask questions, solve problems and share their ideas, helping them to grow in confidence as learners. Reading, writing and maths remain central, but these skills are developed in meaningful, engaging ways that link to real-life experiences and wider curriculum topics such as science, history, geography, art and design.

We understand that moving from Early Years to Year 1 is a big step for both children and families. To make this transition smooth, we keep many familiar routines and continue to provide plenty of opportunities for play and discovery. Our caring team ensures that every child feels supported, valued and ready to thrive in their new environment.

Our classrooms are welcoming and supportive, designed to spark imagination and foster a love of learning. We celebrate each child as an individual, valuing their unique strengths and interests.

Above all, Year 1 is about developing happy, confident learners who are excited to come to school each day and proud of what they achieve.
